The Or Other Wall
Clint Stallard, mayor of 2 hours ago
Before Tuesday’s day in history, we are off on travels today.
- First 2 night stop Bury Saint Edmunds, staying at The Old Cannon Brewery (https://www.oldcannonbrewery.co.uk), looking forward to that.
- Next, off to The Old Palace Lodge in Lincoln for 2 nights (https://theoldpalace.org), mainly to do the cathedral.
- Lastly, on the journey back home, stopping at the closest place to stay to Babs’ daughter and husband, we are doing 2 nights at The Bedingfeld Arms in Norfolk (https://www.bedingfeldarms.co.uk). Oxburgh Hall is very close to it and Paul & Laura have not yet got to go.
As usual I will do my best to visit the last 70 wall posting visitors. So, back to this day in history…
Liquid-Fuelled Rocket Patented

> > > Clint’s comment: It literally is rocket science… lol… https://www.nasa.gov/history/95-years-ago-goddards-first-liquid-fueled-rocket/

It’s Friday and on this day in history:
Lady Godiva
1040 Lady Godiva rides naked on horseback through Coventry, according to legend, to persuade her husband, the Earl of Mercia, to lower taxes
> > > Clint’s comment: I’m trying to imagine this happening in 2026… lol. That said, I asked Copilot…
The closest modern equivalent: World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR)
The UK hosts annual naked or semi‑naked protest rides, especially in London, Brighton, Bristol, Cardiff, and other cities. These are environmental and anti‑car‑culture protests, not tax protests.
A 2025 London article describes unclothed cyclists riding across the city with slogans like “Less gas, more ass” and “Love your body, love the Earth.”

$48 Million Prize Money: Anyone For Tennis?
1877 First Wimbledon tennis championship - first official lawn tennis tournament - begins featuring men's singles only
> > > Clint’s comment: Play began on this day in the world’s first official lawn tennis tournament. It was the Gentlemen’s Singles competition in a championship organised by the All England Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club at Wimbledon, in West London. This would later be recognised as the first Grand Slam tournament or “Major”. Note: The “$48 Million Prize Money” refers to the total size money at the tournament last year.

It’s Wednesday and on this day in history:
Each year on July 8 at 11:15 UTC, 99% of the world's population experiences daylight.
This day should have a name, and it should be a holiday.
> > > Clint’s comment: Always up for an extra public holiday :)
Why July 8, and why 11:15 UTC?
Three factors converge:
1. Earth’s axial tilt
In early July, the Northern Hemisphere is tilted toward the Sun. Because ~90% of the world’s population lives north of the equator, more people are in the half of Earth facing the Sun.
2. Earth’s orbital position
Around July 8, Earth is near the part of its orbit where the terminator line (the boundary between day and night) sweeps across the planet in a way that maximises the number of people in daylight.
3. Time of day
At 11:15 UTC, it’s:
• Morning in the Americas
• Afternoon in Europe & Africa
• Evening in Asia
• Night only in sparsely populated regions (central Pacific, parts of Australia, Antarctica)
This combination means almost everyone is on the lit side of Earth.

The Bend in the
THE ROAD
Sometimes we come to life's crossroads And we view what we think is the end. But God has a much wider vision And He knows it's only a bend- The road will go on and get smoother And after we've stopped for a rest, The path that lies hidden beyond us ls often the path that is best. So rest and relax and grow stronger Let go and let God share your load And have faith in a brighter tomorrow. You've just come to a bend in the road.
