1981 "The War of the Worlds," the first live American radio drama in 25 years, is broadcast on NBC on Halloween

The story begins with H. G. Wells' 1898 science-fiction novel The War of the Worlds, about a Martian invasion of Earth.

Before time clocks, attendance was often recorded manually by supervisors, which was slower and more prone to error or favouritism. Mechanical time clocks provided a standardised, automatic method of tracking working hours.
One of the companies that became famous for time-recording equipment was the International Time Recording Company (ITR). ITR later became part of the company that evolved into IBM (International Business Machines). So there is a direct historical link between the humble factory punch clock and one of the world's largest technology companies.
