Battle of Bosworth Field
1485 Battle of Bosworth Field: Henry Tudor's forces defeat English King Richard III during the last battle in the Wars of the Roses. Richard is killed, becoming the last English monarch to die in battle.

This documentary looks at the search for the remains of King Richard III of England (1452-1485). After being killed in the Battle of Bosworth Field (August 22, 1485), his remains were taken to Leicester and it was believed that he was buried at Greyfriars Church. The church no longer exists and its remains were now believed to be under a car park. Phillipa Langley of the Richard III Society convinced archaeologists at the University of Leicester to lead a dig and surprisingly, as it turned out, the first skeleton they found was subsequently proven to be that of the King through DNA tests which showed a match to Canadian Michael Ibsen, a direct descendant of Richard III's sister… https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2677712/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

Gold Discovered in California
1848 New York Herald is the first major eastern newspaper to report the discovery of gold in California
> > > Clint’s comment: The Trigger: Gold was initially discovered months earlier on January 24, 1848, by James W. Marshall at Sutter's Mill in Coloma, California, but news traveled slowly to the East Coast.
The Report: The Herald's coverage brought the discovery to a massive audience, setting off rumours and excitement that began drawing thousands of fortune seekers westward.
National Impact: Full-blown "Gold Rush" fever took hold later that year in December, when President James K. Polk officially confirmed the vast gold deposits in an address to Congress, leading to the massive 1849 migration of the "Forty-Niners."
