If found that there are many "bio-based" nylons to replace the pro-chemical version and was surprised. There is much, much more than I thought, or can paste here.

Bio-based nylons use some or all of their raw materials from renewable biological sources such as:
Castor beans
Corn sugar
Sugarcane
Vegetable oils
Agricultural waste
The end product is often chemically very similar to conventional nylon
Example: Nylon 11 (castor bean nylon)
For applications such as fishing nets, technical outdoor gear, automotive components, cable ties and engineering plastics, castor-bean-derived Nylon 11 is currently one of the most successful bio-based replacements for petroleum-derived nylon. It delivers many of nylon's benefits while relying on a renewable crop rather than fossil fuels
