it takes a while to figure out what you need to do. first of all when you go off line for long periods you need to lower your taxes so your happyness does not go under 20%. if your off for say 15 hours (bed time and work next morning then 32% tax is about ok). when my happyness gets low I go to mayor and at the bottom left hand side I turn the population off so that you only get happyness. You have to remember when you reach 100% to turn the pop button back on
